FTP on Mennonite.net

FTP is a way of transferring files from one computer to another on the Internet. You can use FTP to upload your web pages, as well as to create new directories and to delete files in your web site's web space.

For information on FTP programs, contact us at

Who:

Webmasters for sites hosted by Mennonite.net have FTP access. FTP is necessary only for custom-designed sites; custom pages may be uploaded to template sites without ftp.

Where:

The FTP server for Mennonite.net is ftp.mennonite.net.

How:

Not all FTP programs are alike. Listed below are two examples of ways your FTP program may ask you to access your web space.

* remember to name your home page (or starting page) for your custom site "index.html"

Example One

Type "ftp.mennonite.net" into your FTP program's server field, and your webmaster account username and password into the appropriate fields.

Once you have entered the server, you will be bumped into a directory for your account. Inside that directory, you will see a folder with the name of your Mennonite.net URL (like firstmenno.in.us.mennonite.net). If you are a webmaster for several Mennonite.net websites, you can choose into which site you wish to FTP. Open the folder for the web site, and put your pages inside.

Example Two

Some FTP programs require a more direct file path into the server. If your ftp program looks like the one below, you will probably need to type the path described below into the location field.

After "edit/mennonite.net/home" enter your webmaster username, then the first part of your Mennonite.net web site URL (like firstmenno .in.us.mennonite.net), then the name of your file.
